Estimate what remains from a Danish salary after tax, pension, rent and recurring monthly costs in Copenhagen.
A salary can look attractive after tax but still feel tight if rent and recurring costs are underestimated. Copenhagen housing costs are often the biggest uncertainty for newcomers, especially families and people arriving before they know the rental market.
Include rent, utilities, heating, internet, mobile phone, transport, groceries, insurance, A-kasse or union membership, childcare if relevant, fitness, subscriptions and travel. Also remember one-off relocation costs such as deposit, furniture and temporary accommodation.
Run three scenarios: optimistic, realistic and conservative. In the conservative scenario, use higher rent, higher recurring costs and no bonus. If the leftover amount is still positive, the offer is more robust.
If the budget result is weak, negotiate before accepting. Possible levers include base salary, employer pension, relocation support, signing bonus, temporary housing, paid travel, flexible location or support for spouse/family relocation.
