How the calculator works

How the Denmark salary calculator works.

A transparent methodology page explaining AM-bidrag, municipal tax, pension handling, tax-card assumptions, bonus treatment and Pay Limit Scheme screening.

01

AM-bidrag labour market contribution

The calculator applies an 8% labour market contribution before the ordinary income-tax layers in the simplified model. This is shown separately because it is one of the first deductions expats notice when comparing gross and net salary.

02

Municipal tax explanation

Municipal tax depends on where you live. The calculator includes municipality presets such as Copenhagen, Frederiksberg, Aarhus, Odense, Aalborg, Kalundborg, Gentofte and Roskilde so users can compare how the same salary changes by location.

03

Pension handling

Employee pension reduces monthly cash in the model. Employer pension is shown as additional annual compensation value but is not counted as monthly take-home cash, because it is normally paid into a pension scheme rather than into your bank account.

04

Personal allowance and tax-card assumptions

The monthly deduction input is a simplified way to approximate tax-card deductions, personal allowance effects, commuting deductions or other individual deductions. Real tax cards are personal, so the calculator should be treated as a planning estimate, not a final SKAT assessment.

05

Bonus assumptions

Annual bonus is treated as cash income for tax-screening purposes in the model. Because real bonus may be guaranteed, discretionary, pro-rated, delayed or paid under different contract terms, users should test both with-bonus and no-bonus scenarios before accepting an offer.

06

Pay Limit Scheme calculation

The Pay Limit Scheme card screens whether modelled counted compensation reaches the 2026 minimum of DKK 552,000 per year, equivalent to DKK 46,000 per month. The calculator uses cash salary, modelled employer pension and annual bonus as a screening estimate, but SIRI decides which components count in a real application.

07

Known limitations

TakeHomeDK does not know your official tax card, full deductions, exact pension contract, holiday allowance details, benefits, relocation package, family situation or final immigration interpretation. It is designed to identify questions and compare scenarios before you verify details with SKAT, SIRI, your employer or a qualified advisor.
